This will be a relief print, which means you will roll on ink to the raised surfaces you add to the base cardboard. Therefore, pay close attention to the detail and accuracy of the added materials. To cut out cardboard, use scissors. You can reuse your perspective drawing to poke holes through your cardboard pieces to create guides for where to cut. You can redraw your design onto the cardboard by hand or trace your design onto a new 8x10" piece of paper using a light box, then tape the copy to your cardboard and pierce along the lines with a pin to transfer your design. OR you can rub graphite (pencil) on the back, then retrace your lines to transfer the design in pencil to the cardboard. Turn in on the table by the end of the period: 1. Don't rest the paintbrush with bristles down in a cup of water. 4. Emergency? Wash the brush before leaving. 5. Use one brush only and rinse between colors. 6. To clean, gently swirl the brush against a palm under running water until the water runs clear. 7. I am assigned one specific brush according to my number on the class roster. Collage needs to show the following concrete visual elements:
Start with 12x18 drawing paper. Using a ruler, draw 5 lines going diagonally at different angles. These will form the foundation of your composition so think carefully about line placement. Add smaller lines between the 5 major ones to add interest to composition and divide excessively large areas. Be careful not to add TOO many lines though or cutting and assembling your piece will take forever. Consider variety from section to section; don't put two fragments from the same piece right next to each other. Place focal points strategically throughout composition. Try to "reassemble" the objects from fragments of different angles and techniques, adding calligraphy and wood pieces to break it up in places. |

If the proportions are accurate and your rough draft is approved, choose the color for your final paper and transfer your drawing with vine charcoal, not pencil!
